On December 11, University of Nevada, Las Vegas hosted a debate on the changing role of America’s military, convened by the Brookings Institution’s Foreign Policy program and the Charles Koch Institute, in partnership with POLITICO.

This event is the second in a series of thematic debates on America’s role in the world, hosted in cities around the United States. The purpose of the series is to foster a vigorous, civil, and constructive national discussion on the future of American foreign policy.

The Las Vegas debate addressed what kind of military the United States needs to confront current and future threats, how the U.S. military should be postured at home and around the globe, and the scope for greater burden-sharing between the United States and its allies.

POLITICO’s chief international affairs columnist and host of “The Global Politico,” Susan Glasser, moderated the debate. Mahsa Saeidi, a reporter at KTNV Action News, moderated a question-and-answer with the audience.
